Richard DeKorn Frank

Richard DeKorn Frank, 91, passed away at his home in Orient on May 6, with his family present.

He was born in Manhattan on March 21, 1921, to Frederick DeKorn and Josephine Becker Frank. Dick attended Phillips Exeter Academy, received his B.A. from Yale University and his M.P.A. from New York University. His military service was in U.S. Army Intelligence, where he was a Japanese translator. During this time he met and married Kathryn Chapin in Arlington, Va., in June 1943.

Mr. Frank worked for Murjani International as executive vice president for five years, Abraham and Strauss as vice president for 23 years and Cornell University School of Industrial Relations for five years. After his retirement to Orient in 1988 he served as a trustee of Eastern Long Island Hospital from 1997 to 2009. He was on the board of the Arts in Southold Town, commodore of the Orient Yacht Club, president of the Oysterponds Historical Society, on the board of CAST and treasurer of the Southold Indian Museum.

In his spare time he enjoyed golf and was an avid Yankees, Giants and Rangers fan.

Predeceased by his loving wife of 57 years in 2000 and his daughter-in-law Eve in 2012, he is survived by his son James Frank, daughter-in-law Shirley, grandson Jason and granddaughter Joanna of Huntington; his daughter, Sandra Chapin of Orient, who was his companion for the last 11 years, and former son-in-law Stephen Maciura of Orient; his son John Frank, grandson Shawn and granddaughter Chelsea of Old Bethpage; his sister, Bette Stein of Manhasset; and his sister-in-law, Mary Alice Chapin of Washington, N.C.

Memorial visitation will be at Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport Friday, May 18, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. There will be a celebration of his life Saturday, May 19, at 1 p.m. at Orient Congregational Church on Main Road in Orient.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Eastern Long Island Hospital or East End Hospice.
