Cops: Greenport duo tried to break into building, armed with a knife

Police responded to a call on Main Street in Greenport Sunday night after receiving a report of a man attempting to gain entrance into a building while armed with a knife, Southold Town Police said.

Michael Webster, 23, of Greenport was taken into custody after a brief struggle, police said. His girlfriend, Amanda Stetler, 20, of Greenport was also taken into custody after she fought with officers, police said.

Mr. Webster was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, resisting arrest and menacing. Ms. Stetler was charged with resisting arrest and harassment.

Mr. Webster was previously arrested for criminal trespass in November 2010 after he entered a residence on Main Street in Greenport, though he was told several times by police at the request of the homeowner not to enter the premises, according to a Suffolk Times report.
