Dorothy B. Fisher

Dorothy B. Fisher, a resident of Peconic Landing in Greenport for 10 years, died May 19 at the retirement community’s nursing home. She was 90.

After graduating from Oberlin College in Ohio in 1944, she accepted a position at Bell Telephone Laboratories in Manhattan, where she worked from 1945 to 1948. She married David Fisher in 1946 and volunteered at the United Nations from 1948 to 1952.

Her son was born in 1953 and her daughter in 1955 and, beginning in 1958, the family spent summers at their cottage in East Marion.

Ms. Fisher was a volunteer in the adult literacy program at the Nassau County Jail for 10 years, teaching inmates how to read. She was a member of Garden City Community Church from 1952 until 2002, when she became a member of Orient Congregational Church.

She is survived by her husband and her children, Douglas and Diane, both of East Marion.

A memorial service will be held Friday, May 25, at 4:30 p.m. at Orient Congregational Church.

Ms. Fisher gave her body to the body donation program at Stony Brook University’s Department of Anatomical Science for use in research.
