Police news: arrest for knife assault in Mattituck home

A Mattituck  man was arrested Saturday just before noon, charged with second-degree assault, a felony, for lacerating another Mattituck man in the face with a knife, Southold Town Police said.

Responding to a report of an assault at 570 Pacific Street, police found Jerry Stephens, 55, with lacerations to his face. He said Heath Austin Leacy, 40, who was still at the house, had attacked him, police said.

Mr. Leacy was taken into custody without incident and held pending arraignment.

Mr. Stephens was transported by Mattituck Fire Department Rescue responders to Eastern Long Island Hospital.
