Marilyn “Lynn” Slavin

Marilyn “Lynn” Slavin, a longtime resident of Darien, Conn., passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at Stamford Hospital, surrounded by her family.

Originally from Easton, Pa., Lynn was the daughter of Frank and Doris Davis. She was a graduate of Adelphi University and was a speech pathologist on Long Island for several years before moving to Connecticut.

Lynn is survived by her husband, Raymond D. Slavin; her son, Timothy L. Slavin; and her daughter, Deirdre Slavin-Mitchell, and son-in-law, Richard B. Mitchell of Groton, Mass. She also had two beautiful granddaughters, Kelsey and Leah Mitchell, whom she loved dearly.

Lynn was a Reiki Master and Quantum Touch Practitioner. She was a member of the International Association of Reiki Professionals. She was awarded the prestigious board certification in integrative medicine by the American Association of Integrative Medicine. Lynn had been in private practice with her company, Wellness Matters LLC, since 1996 and offered Reiki at Bennett Cancer Center at Stamford Hospital as part of their integrative medicine program. Lynn volunteered with the VNA Hospice and Richard Rosenthal Hospice Residence of Southwestern Connecticut and served on their advisory board.

In 2010, Lynn received Moffly Media’s Light of Fire Award for being an “outstanding health advocate” through her work in Reiki healing and her advocacy on behalf of hospice caregivers. She served in the Stephen Ministry at St. John’s Church and was an active member of St. Luke’s Healing Ministries. She was a member of the former Darien Council for Special Education (parents’ advocacy).

An avid reader and lover of the arts, Lynn wrote and published her own book, “Countless Gifts of Love,” recounting her experience with her mother’s illness and death, focusing on anticipatory grief. She was a member of the National League of American Pen Women. She was a member of the St. John’s Choir.

The family received friends June 3 at Edward Lawrence Funeral Home in Darien. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated June 4 at St. John’s R.C. Church in Darien.
