Greenport Village will host its first derby fishing tournament next week and proceeds from ticket sales and sponsorships will benefit the local Legion Hall renovation project.

The village is co-sponsoring the event with Burton Potter Post 185 of the American Legion on Third Street. Legion members are in the process of bringing the nearly 13,000-square-foot building back to life after five years of being closed.

Entries cost $35 for adults and $15 for children under 16.

The three-day event begins Friday, June 15, and ends at 12 p.m. on June 17.

There will be a reception at the Greenport marina office at Mitchell Park on Friday. There will be a dinner Saturday, June 16, at Hanff’s Boat Yard in Greenport. Dinner tickets are $15 for contestants and $20 for others.

New rod and reel set-ups donated for the tournament will be awarded to the winners on Sunday, June 17.

Tickets are available at WEGO Fishing, Southold Fish Market, Alice’s Fish Market, the Greenport marina office, Tight Lines in Sag Harbor and other local bait shops.

To register, call the marina office at 477-2200 or Greenport Village Hall at 477-0248.
