Jody Adams of Peconic died June 18 at Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport. She was 78.
Josephine Foster Adams was born May 9, 1934, in Washington, D.C., to John Foster and Frances (Jackson) Adams and spent summers in Peconic with her family. She attended public schools in the Washington, D.C., area and the Friends’ School in Pennsylvania and studied at the University of Chicago. She moved to the North Fork after working for the Screen Actors Guild in New York City.
Ms. Adams was known for her fierce independence, family members said, and for the critical letters and articles she wrote for the local newspapers.
She is survived by her sister, Barbara Adams, and her distant cousins, Wendy and Henry Prellwitz.
A memorial service will be held Friday, June 29, at 3 p.m. at First Universalist Church of Southold. Interment will follow at Willow Hill Cemetery in Southold.
