Orient FD rescue team saves boater in the Sound

The Orient Fire Department’s rescue team took to the water Tuesday evening to collect a fisherman in the Sound said to be in great pain with arm and leg injuries and bring him by boat and ambulance to Eastern Long Island Hospital.

The man, Stephen Muto, 46, of Cold Spring Harbor was aboard a charter fishing boat on route from Fishers Island to the Orient by the Sea Marina.

Learning of the extent of the injuries, at 6 p.m. the fire department sent out its rescue boat which met with up the fishing vessel near the Gull Islands.

The man was transferred to the FD boat and stabilized by department EMTs. An ambulance met the boat at Orient by the Sea.
