Planning Board discusses former Mill Creek Inn site

There was little comment at a public hearing Monday evening on a site plan for work at the former Mill Creek Inn on Route 25 in Southold.

The former restaurant was replaced several years ago with a new 8,989-square-foot building by a former owner, Richard Principi, who town officials said didn’t have proper permits in place.

A new group of developers, including builder Eugene Burger, purchased the property last year and is in the process of obtaining the proper permits to legalize the building.

Paul Romanelli, owner of Suffolk Security and an active member of the business community, was the only person to speak at the Planning Board hearing.

“I’ve looked at that eyesore of a property for many years. I know the new owners and I can’t say enough good things about them,” he said. “I don’t think you will find finer stewards of that piece of land, who will improve it for all of Southold Town.”

The Mill Creek Inn application is scheduled to go before the Zoning Board of Appeals in July.
