Southold police officers free six ducklings from storm drain

The Southold Town Police received a report of a duck on County Road 48 in Cutchogue causing vehicles to slow down and swerve to avoid it, police said.

Responding officers located the duck and found that several ducklings had fallen into the road drain, police said.

Police officers along with Pete Harris and Bill Gaffga of the Southold Town Highway Department and Kevin Quillin, assisted in locating and removing the ducklings from an approximately 15-foot deep drain.

The six ducklings were then reunited with their mother.
