Cops: Greenport man charged in connection with theft of copper piping

Southold police arrested a 25 year-old Greenport man Thursday morning in connection with the November theft of copper piping beneath several Greenport homes.

Branden Sutherland was charged with six counts of misdemeanor petit larceny and released on bail for an August court date police said.

Police said the piping was taken from homes on Sandy Beach Road.

In December one of the cottage owners said he discovered the piping was gone when he saw water gushing beneath the sink after turning on the faucet Nov. 25. Police discovered copper piping was removed from five neighboring properties.
