Cops: Sick man rescued in Long Island Sound Saturday afternoon

An ill Roslyn man aboard a boat traveling the Long Island Sound near Mattituck was rescued Saturday afternoon, Southold Town police said.

Douglas Hyer, 69, was aboard a boat driven by William Mullan of East Meadow at around 4:30 p.m. when police responded to an emergency call, police said. Mr. Hyer was transported to the Mattituck Inlet boat ramp by police and Mattituck Fire Department officials and taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment, police said.
