Anthony E. Romano

Anthony E. Romano passed away after a long illness on Monday, June 4, 2012, at San Simeon by the Sound Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Greenport, N.Y. He was 85 years old.

He was born September 27, 1926, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Dominique and Virginia (Castellano) Romano, the second of four children. On June 11, 1950, he was married to Katherine Adele Cook, who was his loving wife for nearly 62 years.

He worked all his life as a lithographer, most notably as the Superintendent of Mastercraft Lithography in Long Island City for over 25 years, until his retirement in the late 1980s. He served his country proudly during World War II, surviving an attack by Japanese kamikaze planes on the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga, on which he served.

He is survived by his wife, Katherine; three children, Karen Ross (Dan) of Mattituck, Gregory, of Wading River, and Robb, of Redding, Conn.; six grandchildren, Stephen, Robert and Matthew Romano and Kaitlin, Jillian and Megan Ross; and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his two brothers, Patrick, of New Jersey, and Dominick, of Brewster, N.Y. His sister, Eleanor Cipriani, passed away last year.

A wake and remembrance service was held on Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at Alexander-Tuthill Funeral Home in Wading River, N.Y. and interment was on June 7, 2012, at Calverton National Cemetery.
