Cops: Southold man charged with DWI

Alfonzo Mendez, 21, of Southold, was arrested Sunday night for driving while intoxicated, according to Southold Town Police.

Police said they stopped Mr. Mendez on Route 25 in Cutchogue as part of an investigation of an incident which occured in Mattituck when they found Mr. Mendez to be intoxicated. Mr. Mendez was transported to headquarters, processed and held overnight for arraignment following his arrest, police said.

• A Southold man was arrested Tuesday evening after leading police on a brief chase through Cutchogue, Southold Town Police said.

William Kennedy, 52, told an officer to get lost using vulgar language after being pulled over for a traffic stop on Route 25 and sped away in his vehicle, police said. Police pursued the vehicle with other officers joining them and Mr. Kennedy’s vehicle came to a stop about two miles from the initial location, police said.

He was charged with seventh degree possession of a controlled substance and failure to comply, police said. He was pulled over for a prior incident involving possession of drugs, police said.

Mr. Kennedy was taken to police headquarters, processed and released on cash bail.

• A Farmingdale man was arrested July 3 in a Greenport parking lot for aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle, failure to signal a turn and failure to wear a seat belt, Southold Town Police said. Police said Craig Costello, 44, was observed driving his Doge Dakota without a seatbelt on and made a right turn into a parking lot without signaling his turn. Further investigation revealed Mr. Costello has a suspended license, police said.

Mr. Costello was arrested, transported to police headquarters, processed and released on cash bail, according to police.
