Should Greenport Village charge for parking in municipal lots?

Although Greenport Village trustee Mary Bess Phillips said she understands that paid parking is a “sore subject” for Mayor David Nyce, she wants to revisit the idea, taking a different approach this time around.

Ms. Phillips wants to discuss installing gates at municipal lots that issue motorists a ticket when they park, which they pay upon leaving.

Ms. Phillips said she got the idea after visiting Cape May, N.J., and saw how the municipality handles its summer parking woes.
