William A. Brant

William A. Brant of Mattituck died on Aug. 10, 2012. He was 83 years old and a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.

Born in Port Washington, N.Y., on March 2, 1929, to Clifford and Bertha Brant, he was a graduate of Port Washington High School and later trained in architectural drafting.

Formerly of Port Washington, where he was a carpenter, he had lived in Mattituck for the past 24 years. He was a member and ex-captain of the Protection Engine Company No. 1 of the Port Washington Fire Department and a member of the American Legion Post No. 803 in Southold.

Surviving is his wife Marian Schillinger, whom he married on Feb. 8, 1953, in Franklin Square; a daughter, Susan Olson (Arthur) of Miller Place; two granddaughters, Lindsey Sacco (Peter) and Laura Olson; a sister, Carol Mulchinski of Port Washington; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Richard and Clifford, and a sister, Virginia.

The family received friends Aug. 12 at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck, where American Legion and prayer services were held. Interment was private.
