Alice I. Krupski

Alice Irene Krupski, longtime Riverhead resident, died Aug. 2, 2012, at her daughter’s home in Anaheim Hills, Calif.

She was born April 28, 1923, to John and Alice (Sepenoski) Kruszeski, one of five children. She is survived by her sisters Jeanette Swotkewicz and Barbara Dickerson and was predeceased by her sister Helen Rosko and her brother John Kruszeski.

She was proud to be a farmer’s daughter and, after she married Edward Krupski on June 24, 1945, a potato farmer’s wife. Alice and Ed were successful farmers for many years until retirement. Ed passed away in 2006.

Alice provided a nurturing and happy home for her four daughters, Alice Krupski, Dolores (Jeff) Knighton, Dorothy (Brian) McGowan and JoAnn (David) Juberg. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Michael Juberg, Daniel Juberg, Kevin McGowan and Jaclyn (Tom) Hanifen, who loved her as much as she cherished them. She was also great-grandmother to Kathryn and Lauren Hanifen, and would show their pictures to any attentive visitor. She was so content just being around her family.

Alice was a homemaker extraordinaire who throughout her life cooked, canned (her jams had many eager and devoted followers), tended to her flower and vegetable gardens and sewed (everything from Barbie doll clothes to prom gowns), while being Ed’s bookkeeper for the farm business.

She excelled in anything arts and crafts. She was a member of the Riverhead-Jamesport Homemakers and would arrange her weekly schedule so that she would not miss a meeting. In her final years she particularly loved crocheting beautifully intricate afghans for many family members and friends. She just loved to see the pleased look on recipients’ faces when they received their heartfelt gifts. She often said that she received more than she gave in that simple gesture.

Visiting hours will take place Friday, Aug. 10, 2012, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home, 336 Marcy Ave., Riverhead. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Saturday, Aug. 11, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Isidore R.C. Church, followed by interment at St. John’s Cemetery, both in Riverhead.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Alice’s memory go to St. Isidore R.C. Church, 622 Pulaski St., Riverhead, NY 11901.

Alice was a kind and giving person, beloved and respected by many, and will be missed. Enjoy your new life, Matka — “It’s Hoopa Shoopa time!”
