James Talas

James Talas of Mattituck died Aug. 4 at Stony Brook University Medical Center. He was 85.

He was born Feb. 2, 1927, in Jacksonville, Fla., to Theologos and Meine (Pepirias) Talas and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.

Mr. Talas is survived by his wife, Parie (née Cyprus); his daughter, Maria Aliprantis; his sister, Eleni Vocou; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, Aug. 7, from 5 to 9 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. The Divine Liturgy will be celebrated by Father Constantine Makrinos Wednesday, Aug. 8, at 10 a.m. at Transfiguration of Christ Greek Orthodox Church in Mattituck. Interment with U.S. Marine Corps honors will be at Calverton National Cemetery.
