Louis F. Baker of Southold died on Aug. 11, 2012, at the age of 83.
Lou was born in Greenport, N.Y., on April 30, 1929, to Louis E. and Irene (Sawyer) Baker. After graduating from Southold High School, he served in the U.S. Army for two years.
Upon his honorable discharge, he started a career with the Long Island Lighting Company that lasted 36 years, He retired as a multi-station operator.
Lou was a member of the Southold Fire Department
He is survived by his brother, John E. “Jack” Baker (Jacqueline) of Southold; a nephew, Keith (Rose) Baker of East Marion; a sister, Bertha “Babe” Bell of Minnesota; and two nephews, Jack and Steve Bell of Minnesota. He was predeceased by a niece, Barbara Neltge.
The family will receive friends Thursday, Aug. 16, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold, where funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 17, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at the Southold Presbyterian Cemetery.
