Marna Lynn Steffen

Marna Lynn Steffen passed away the morning of Aug. 5, 2012, at her home in Mattituck, N.Y.

Marna Lynn Steffen

She was born Sept. 30, 1942, in Greenport, N.Y., to Marna and Walter Williams. She attended Mattituck High School and graduated from Riverhead High School. She earned a degree in business from Virginia Intermont College in Bristol, Va., after completing a two-year program. While attending VI she conducted the college choir in a winning competition.

Lynn moved to Silver Springs, Md., and became the senior banker at Marine Midland Bank in Washington, D.C.

Down the road Lynn moved to Manhattan, where she married Berchtold Steffen and took singing lessons under the direction of Stephen Citron. Music had always been her foundation, coming from a family for whom music was an integral part of life.

A few years later Lynn and Berchtold relocated to Brussels, Belgium, for six months before moving to Burgistein, Switzerland, where they lived for almost a decade. Switzerland is where mother’s heart will always stay. She was proud of her beautiful garden and her two children, Patrick and Danielle.

She moved back to the United States and was a large contributor to the Mattituck Presbyterian Church Choir, where her family enjoyed hearing her every Sunday. A smart businesswoman, Lynn owned and operated European Style House Cleaning in Mattituck.

She was blessed with two grandchildren, Tyler and Brandon, whom she loves so deeply. She was a woman of strong faith and compassion, and had great respect and love for life and for every person with whom she made contact. Her spirit will live on through all of the lives of everyone she touched.

She is survived by her children; her sister, Ann Welcome; her brother, Ray Williams; and her stepsister, Shel Cullison.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug.18, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Mattituck Presbyterian Church. Arrangements are being handled by Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mattituck Presbyterian Church Music Fund, P.O. Box 1411, Mattituck, NY 11952; East End Hospice, P.O. Box 1048, Westhampton Beach, NY 11978; or the Autism Society of America, www.autismsocietyof america.org.
