Raymond Michael Penney

Raymond Michael Penney of Southold passed away on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, at home in the loving company of his wife and their two sons, following a courageous battle against leukemia. Ray was 55 years of age.

Raymond Michael Penney

Born in Brooklyn on June 18, 1957, Ray was the eldest son of James and Eila Penney. Ray attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic School, Birch Lane Elementary and McKenna Junior High and graduated from Massapequa High School with the Class of 1975.

Ray passionately followed his gift and love for music. He reached the highest levels of his craft as a professional guitarist, avid musician and instructor. Ray gifted us all with hundreds of performances as a jazz, rock and blues guitarist; a collection of recordings as a band member; and as a creative soloist with his award-winning renditions of classic lullabies and masterpieces that he composed for children and parents, titled “Goodnight Guitar” and “Goodmorning Guitar.”

Most important, Ray will be remembered by all who knew him as a caring friend, a man dedicated to family and a loving husband to his wife, Donna, and a devoted father to their sons, James and Daniel. Ray blessed everyone who knew him with his lively spirit, boundless imagination, incomparable humor and his generous heart.

A Funeral Mass for Ray will be held Saturday, Aug. 18, at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick R.C. Church in Southold, Long Island.

Arrangements were handled by Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue.
