WATCH: Two locals featured in Democratic National Convention video

Two North Fork residents were featured in a video last Thursday played prior to President Barack Obama’s acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention.

Wearing a green T-shirt, Tom Hart, owner of Deep Roots Farm in Orient, describes the American Dream about 48 seconds into the video.

“To eventually to be able to retire, to be able to purchase a home, you know, the basic American Dream,” Mr. Hart said in the video.

According to his business’s Facebook page, Mr. Hart is passionate about sustainable living and organic farming practices. Deep Roots Farm had its first season this year and is a participant in the Greenport Farmers’ Market.

Cutchogue resident Anne Howard, who is a member of Slow Food East End, a local chapter of the nonprofit group Slow Food USA that promotes local farms and businesses, is featured 2:59 minutes into the video and again at 3:17 minutes.

“President Obama knows what direction this country needs to go,” said Ms. Howard, wearing dark-rimmed glasses and a red dress. “This country is based on those advantages for everyone, not just people who are at the higher income level.”
