Ethel Brown

Ethel Brown of Greenport passed away Aug. 30 surrounded by her loving family. She was 105 years old.

Ethel had worked as a substitute teacher for Greenport schools, obtained the first charter for the town’s Girl Scout troop and was active with the public library. She served as president of the Daughters of Israel and vice president of Congregation Tifereth Israel, helping to raise money for the temple. She and her husband, Abe, ran a men’s clothing store in Greenport for many years.

Predeceased by her husband and her daughter, Marcia Block, Ms. Brown is survived by her son-in-law, Yale (Myrna) Block; her grandchildren, Brian Block, Linda (Geoffrey) Stern, Lisa Bergman and Barry (Julianne) Osherow; and six great-grandchildren: Jackson Stern, William Stern, Matthew Bergman, Rachel Bergman, Madden Osherow and Dexton Osherow.

Funeral services were held Sept. 3 at the Star of David Chapel in West Babylon.
