Boat catches fire in Southold Bay, passengers escorted safely to shore

A boat fire was extinguished 11:30 a.m. Sunday in Southold Bay, Southold Town Police said.

An overheating engine caused the vessel, owned by a Southold resident, to catch fire before the Southold Bay constables, Sea Tow and Southold Fire Department arrived on scene to extinguish the fire and escort occupants to shore, police said.

All parties refused medical attention, according to the report.
