Featured Letter: Slow it down on the water, will ya!

To the Editor:

Recently my wife was out fishing in the North Race off New Suffolk when she was startled to see an outboard motorboat cutting so close to her stern that it actually cut her fishing line with lure and fish attached.

This offending captain was driving at cruising speed through a crowded channel, was driving way too close to a group of smaller boats fishing and was ignorant of boating safety and courtesy observed when fishing lines are in the water, among other things.

If this were a motor vehicle incident, it would qualify as aggressive driving. This was not the first time we’ve observed aggressive boating in Peconic Bay.

Hey, captain, give us some room and slow it down a little through the Race. Consider the impact of your wake. Show come courtesy to your fellow boaters, please.

Jim Baker, New Suffolk
