Supervisor Russell suggests 2013 budget with 1.98% property tax hike

TIM KELLY FILE PHOTO | Supervisor Scott Russell delivering his “State of the Town” address earlier this year.

Supervisor Scott Russell has proposed a new Southold town budget with total spending of just under $41 million and an accompanying property tax rate increase of 1.98 percent.

Although that figure seems just barely within the state’s 2 percent tax cap, the rate includes mandated payments including contributions to the state employee retirement system that are not covered by the 2 percent cap.

The budget now goes to the full Town Board for its review.
