Trespassing charge for woman found sleeping on stranger’s couch in Greenport

An intoxicated Southold woman told police she thought she was in her friend’s house when she was found sleeping on a stranger’s couch on Fifth Street in Greenport Friday morning,  Southold Town police said.

Rosemarie Stepnoski, 35, was charged with second-degree criminal trespassing after the woman who lives in the home called the police after finding her on the sofa shortly after 3 a .m. Ms. Stepnoski entered the home through an unlocked rear door, police said.

She was transported to police headquarters and issued an appearance ticket for a later court date, police said.
