Long Island Spirits distillery and Sherwood House Vineyards have joined forces to make Long Island’s first aged brandy, called Sherwood X.O. Brandy.

Sherwood House chose an award winning Chardonnay as the base for the brandy, which was double distilled into 1,100 gallons of wine and ultimately yielded just over 100 gallons of high proof brandy.

The brandy then rested in new french oak barrels for close to three years.

Only about 900 bottles will be available for the product’s initial release and will be sold only at Sherwood House and Long Island Spirits tasting rooms.

In a joint press release about the product, the brandy is described as having “hints of almond, walnut, vanilla and subtle spicy notes of cardamom, ginger and cinnamon culminating with a long mellow finish.”

Long Island Spirits created the very first commercial brandy ever distilled in Nassau or Suffolk with Peconic Bay Winery just over two years ago.

That brandy, Sono Rinata, was an immature grape brandy, as it was not aged.
