John L. Pollock

Former Greenport resident John L. Pollock died Oct. 8 at Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Center in Bonham, Texas. He was 93 years old.

He was born in Greenport July 29, 1919, to John King and Ella Blanche (Tuthill) Pollock. He married Stephanie Cichanowicz in Riverhead on Aug. 14, 1943. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, participating in the beach landing at Normandy and fighting in northern France, central Europe and the Ardennes Forest, in both the Battle of the Bulge and the Rhineland Campaign.

Mr. Pollock retired in 1981 as director of facilities for Computer Science Corporation. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Bonham, the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion.

Mr. Pollock is survived by his wife of 69 years; his son, Michael; his daughters, S. Bernadette Morgan and Mary E. Wilson; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by five brothers and five sisters.

Visiting hours took place Oct. 14 at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home in Bonham. A funeral Mass was celebrated Oct. 15 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Father Manuel Sabando officiating, assisted by Michael F. Pollock, grandson of the deceased. Interment followed at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas.
