Girls Soccer: Mattituck has a playoff date in Babylon

The Mattituck and Babylon girls soccer teams have played each other twice this season, but a scheduled third meeting between the two League VI teams will be the biggest of them all.

Third-seeded Mattituck (7-7) will travel to No. 2 Babylon (11-3-1) on Friday afternoon for a Suffolk County Class B outbracket match at 2:30 p.m. The winner of that game will face No. 1 Center Moriches (9-4) for the county championship on Monday, Nov. 5, at Diamond in the Pines in Coram at 5 p.m.

Mattituck and Babylon split their two regular-season meetings. The Tuckers were 2-1 winners on their home field on Sept. 20, but the Panthers gained revenge with a 1-0 victory in Babylon on Oct. 12.

Both teams are entering the postseason in contrasting forms. Mattituck has lost four of its last five games; Babylon has won seven of its past nine.

Southold/Greenport did not qualify for the playoffs, and finished the year with a 4-9-2 record.
