Mary E. Mills

Mary E. Mills of Mattituck died Oct. 22 at Peconic Bay Medical Center’s Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Riverhead. She was 102 years old.

She was born in Queens Nov. 5, 1909, to Florence (Powell) and Wilmot Hallock and was a homemaker for most of her adult life.

She belonged to the North Fork Country Club and the Mattituck Yacht Club and was the oldest member of Church of the Redeemer in Mattituck. She enjoyed playing bridge and swimming in Great Peconic Bay.

Ms. Mills is survived by her daughters, Barbara Ann Whitwell (William L.) of Roanoke, Va., and Mary Hallock Smith (Kent O.) of Mattituck; her grandchildren, Gordon Clark Whitwell (Carla Rachel), Kent O. Smith Jr. (Marsha) and Jennifer Hallock Engborg (Philip Proctor Engborg); and her great-grandchildren, Christopher Kent Engborg, Peyton Hallock Engborg and Maya Katherine Whitwell.

Cremation was private. Arrangements were handled by Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue.
