Oysterponds now only North Fork district still closed

When students return to school in Mattituck-Cutchogue and Southold schools Friday, Oysterponds will be left as the only North Fork School District still closed.

Oysterponds school superintendent Dick Malone said Wednesday that the school will be closed through the end of the week due to power outages and downed trees entangled in wires.

There has been no official word yet on whether the elementary school district, which serves students in grades K-6 from East Marion and Orient, will open Monday. Greenport schools, where Oysterponds students attend junior high and high school classes, was open Thursday.

East Marion was among the local communities hit hardest by Monday’s storm.
