Speonk man stopped in car, charged with violating order of protection

A 22-year-old Speonk man was arrested during a traffic stop Sunday night after cops found a passenger in his car had an order of protection against him, Southold Town police said.

Juan Castrovelasquez was initially stopped by police about 9:15 a.m. on Route 48 in Mattituck for a traffic violation, according to a report.

“A computer check revealed he had an active stay away Order of Protection issued against him from a passenger in his vehicle,” the report reads.

Mr. Castrovelasquez was charged with second-degree criminal contempt, police said.
