Girls Volleyball: Babylon ends Mattituck’s title run; Greenport advances to finals

There will be no trip to Glens Falls this year for the Tuckers.

The Mattituck girls volleyball team fell 3-0 Friday afternoon against top-seeded Babylon in the Class C playoffs, ending the Tuckers’ run of two straight Long Island championships.

Babylon (15-2) easily won the first game 25-8, setting the tone for the rest of the match. The Panthers closed out the match with 25-11, 26-24 victories to advance to tomorrow’s county championship against Greenport/Southold, which defeated Port Jefferson, 3-1. Greenport won 25-23, 25-15, 21-25, 25-15. It was the third time Greenport defeated the Royals this season.

Saturday’s county finals match begins at 4 p.m.

No. 5 Mattituck won Thursday against McGann-Mercy to advance to Friday’s match against Babylon.

Mattituck closes out the season 6-13.
