Police: Orient shooter arrested again

The Orient man who was arrested in July for firing multiple rifle shots toward a construction crew was arrested again Friday, this time for trespassing, Southold Police said.

Donald Lechtrecker, 65, was arrested after he was observed driving his car on a neighbor’s driveway on Bird’s Eye Lane in Orient. Mr. Lechtrecker was charged with criminal trespass in the incident, which occurred shortly before 1 p.m. He was transported to police headquarters, processed and released on $100 cash bail.

In July, he fired multiple shots into the air and later in the direction of the workers using a Winchester 30/30 lever action rifle, Southold Town police said. Two construction vehicles were struck by bullets, but no one was injured, according to police. He is due back in court Dec. 12 on the prior incident, according to court records.
