Helen Slavonik Droskoski

Helen Slavonik Droskoski of Southold died at The Shores at Peconic Landing on Nov. 30, 2012. She was 89 years old.

She was born June 29, 1923, in Orient, N.Y., to Stanislaus and Leocadia (Janeczko) Schlivonik and attended Mattituck schools. On May 28, 1944, she married Joseph A. Droskoski at Our Lady of Ostrabrama R.C. Church in Cutchogue and together they made their home in Southold.

Many years ago, she was a cook at San Simeon by the Sound nursing home. In the community, she was a member of the Moose Lodge and a communicant of St. Patrick R.C. Church.

Predeceased by her husband in 1993, she leaves her children, Joan H. Edwards of Riverhead, Karen M. Fedun of East Quogue and Joseph S. Droskoski of Southold; a brother, Frank Slavonik of Aquebogue; a sister-in-law, Helen Wolanski of Cutchogue; and five grandchildren: Tracy Polak, Kristy Wilkinson, Becky Edwards, Ashley Fedun and Michael Fedun. She was also predeceased by siblings Stella Polecki, Anne Kurczewski, Frances Mitchell and Edward Slavonik.

The family received friends Dec. 3 at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold, where prayer services were conducted by Father Peter Garry. The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated Dec. 4 at St. Patrick R.C. Church by Father Thomas Murray and Father Peter Garry. Interment followed at Sacred Heart R.C. Cemetery.
