The hot shooting of guards David O’Day and Liam Walker helped Southold High School turn an early fourth-quarter deficit into a 75-64 victory over host Mattituck in the season-opener boys basketball game for both schools on Friday night.

O’Day scored 11 of his game-high 23 points in the final period and Walker added seven of his 21 points in that quarter of the non-league encounter.

The Tuckers enjoyed a 59-53 advantage with 6:06 remaining in the game before the First Settlers went on a 14-0 tear to grab a 67-59 lead with 3:05 left. O’Day scored six points during that run and Walker had four.

Guard Eugene Allen and reserve Chris Dwyer paced Mattituck with 16 points apiece and freshman guard Joe Tardiff contributed 13 in his varsity debut.
