Cops: Brooklyn man posed as chimney repairman in Mattituck

A Brooklyn man has been arrested for scamming an elderly Mattituck resident out of more than $4,500 while pretending to be a chimney repairman, Southold Town police said.

Chris Hugo Lopez, 23, was one of three men who took money for chimney repair services they did not complete, police said. He was charged with one count of grand larceny in the third degree, a class D felony.He was held without bail pending arraignment.

More arrests are pending in the case and investigators believe the men are involved in similar incidents throughout Suffolk County, police said.
