George David Costello Sr.

Lifelong Greenport resident George David Costello Sr. died Dec. 28 in Southampton. He was 63 years old.

He was born in Greenport Sept. 29, 1949, to Elsie Marie (Reiter) and Edward Thomas Costello and attended Greenport High School. He married Iona Malcomson on Dec. 27, 1999, and served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Since 1976 he had been co-owner, along with his brother John, of Costello Marine Contracting Corp. in Greenport.

He was a member of Burton Potter American Legion Post 185 in Greenport and, according to family members, enjoyed fishing, traveling the world and driving Cobra.

Mr. Costello is survived by his wife and daughter Emily, both of Greenport; his daughters Tina, of Riverhead, Amanda Hurwitz of Newington, Conn., Jennifer, of Charleston, S.C., and Gretchen Acquanita of Poughkeepsie. N.Y.; his son, George Jr.; his brothers, John, of Greenport, and E. Thomas, of Naples, Fla.; his sister, Anne McDowell of Mesa, Ariz.; and 11 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents and his sisters, Daphne, Mary Polimeno and E. Patricia.

Visiting hours will take place Tuesday, Jan. 1, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday, Jan. 2, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport. A service will be held at the funeral home Thursday, Jan. 3, at 10 a.m., Father Tom Murray of St. Agnes R.C. Church officiating. Interment will be at Arshamomaque Cemetery in Greenport.
