Cops: Fire official discovers fraudulent charge on credit card

A Mattituck Fire Department official reported a fraudulent charge for nearly $600 on a credit card he shares with the department last Tuesday, police said.

The official told police he checked his credit card statement and noticed the charge for $599.19 in Sprint Wireless services made on Dec. 23, police said. The fire official said he did not make the charge and that the fire department doesn’t work with Sprint, according to a report.

The victim said he’d file a report with the Federal Trade Commission.
