Woman chases burglar from Mattituck home

A Mattituck woman chased a burglar from her home around 2 p.m. Monday after discovering the intruder shortly after she entered the front door, Southold Police said.

The woman told police she heard someone upstairs in her Cox Neck Road home. She confronted the burglar and chased him out of the house, calling 911 in the process. The man, described as olive-skinned and in his mid-to-late 20s, ran off in the direction of Westphalia Road, the woman told police.

She said she noticed a car parked on the side of the road that seemed out of place as she drove down the street. She did not see the man get into the vehicle — possibly a black Mercedes — and the car was gone not long after she called police.

Southold police shared the report with neighboring Riverhead, but no suspect has yet been apprehended.
