Supervisor: Southold still under a state of emergency

Although the skies have cleared and many roads are passable, Southold Town remains under a state of emergency, which means non-emergency vehicles should remain off the road until highway crews have finished their work, said Supervisor Scott Russell.

“The crews are making excellent progress, but it’s still slow going,” Mr. Russell said Saturday afternoon. “People need to just stay home. We have snow clearing equipment getting stuck so the roads are still not safe for a family sedan.”

He said the town’s plowing efforts have been delayed and complicated by the number of vehicles stranded in the snow.

Southold Police reported that two of the department’s SUV’s were stuck in the snow for three hours Friday night.
