Dozens of families from across the North Fork braved the snow drifts Sunday afternoon to have some fun in the cold at local sledding spots.

While most stuck the landing, some kids like Mary Grace Hartmann, 11, were wiping out on the sledding jump Sunday afternoon.

One of the most popular spots was a gentle hill in Mattituck just off Route 25 where close to 100 kids and parents stacked up snow to make a ramp.

Orient resident Sean Feehan said he spent the morning clearing roadways with a private company, but said there was no doubt he and his 5-year-old son, Connor, would go sledding on Sunday.

“We had to make sure we got the afternoon in at least,” he said. “How could you not?”
