A fundraiser will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday to support Arnoldo Sandoval, a 2007 Southold graduate, who has been suffering from lupus. Mr. Sandoval has faced staggering medical expenses as he’s dealt with the illness.

The fundraiser is a dance at the Southold American Legion and will feature a DJ and refreshments. The cost is $20 and there will be a raffle for items, including a big-screen TV, and gift certificates from local merchants.

Lupus is a “chronic inflammatory disease that occurs when your body’s immune system attacks your own tissues and organs,” according to the Mayo Clinic. “Inflammation caused by lupus can affect many different body systems — including your joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, brain, heart and lungs.”

There is no known cure for lupus, but treatments can control the symptoms, according to the Mayo Clinic.
