The Oysterponds Board of Education is expected to discuss its secondary contract negotiations at tonight’s school board meeting in Orient.

According to tonight’s agenda, the school board will likely vote on a resolution to designate the Greenport School District as its secondary school for the 2013-2014 school year.

Oysterponds is a pre-K through 6th grade school district that serves the Orient and East Marion communities. The elementary school district currently sends its students in 7th through 12th grade to Greenport schools.

Both districts are currently finalizing a five-year tuition contract. Once a secondary school contract is finalized, it will be put before Orient and East Marion residents in a referendum.

The Oysterponds school board will also discuss its teacher’s contract negotiations during tonight’s executive session, which is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and is closed to the public. The school board is still ironing out a new teacher’s contract to replace the agreement that expired June 30, 2011.

The public portion of tonight’s meeting is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
