One man was taken to an area hospital Thursday afternoon after rear-ending a vehicle in front of him on Main Road in Cutchogue, fire department officials said.

At about 1:05 p.m. a white Chevy van driven by Robert Irrgang of Laurel struck the back of a red Jeep Liberty stopped in the westbound lane near Harbor Lane, authorities said.

The Cutchogue Fire Department Rescue Squad brought Mr. Irrgang to Eastern Long Island Hospital for what were described as minor injures.

The driver of the jeep, Steven Sharp of Southold, was  not injured, said First Assistant Fire Chief Antone Berkoski.
