Ann M. Abate

Longtime Greenport resident Ann M. Abate died March 7 in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. She was 71 years old.

Born Jan. 7, 1942, to Patrick and Ana Gardner, she attended Catholic grammar school and graduated from North Shore High School. She married Emanuel (Manny) Abate on April 18, 1964, in Glen Cove.

She worked as a secretary for Southold Town attorney Robert Tasker and for Greenport School, and she later retired from Eastern Long Island Hospital. She was a parishioner at St. Agnes R.C. Church in Greenport and became a Eucharistic minister for her parish in Charlotte, N.C.

She is survived by her children, Andrea Manfredi of Southold, Suzanne Gunter of Concord, N.C., Alison, of Raleigh, N.C., and Emanuel, of Lake Park, Fla.; her sister, Mary; her brothers, Pat and Bob; and 11 grandchildren.
