Genevieve C. Koloski

Genevieve C. Koloski of Cutchogue died March 20, 2013. The lifelong North Fork resident was 93 years old.

Born in Laurel, N.Y., on Feb. 29, 1920, to Thomas and Margaret (Sosnicki) Buchak, she attended Laurel schools. On Jan. 15, 1939, she married Chester R. Koloski at St. Isidore R.C. Church in Riverhead. That day there was a big snowstorm and Chet helped shovel the driveway of Gen’s family farm so the wedding could be held.

She and Chet lived on a farm in Laurel that they bought. They grew produce, including strawberries, potatoes and string beans. When Chet retired from farming, they moved to Cutchogue and spent the remainder of their lives there.

Gen loved gardening, planting flowers and tending to her roses. She would often join her husband on his Grady-White boat, The Gen–K, where they enjoyed fishing, crabbing and clamming.

She was an excellent cook and will be remembered for her crabmeat dip, kasha, golumpki and lima bean soup. Every Easter Sunday, she would host a large family party that was thoroughly enjoyed by all, said family members.

Gen also enjoyed traveling, especially to Florida in the winter. Following her 50th anniversary party at the Vineyards in Aquebogue, they went to Hawaii.

Predeceased by her husband, Chester, she is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Edward Buchak of Cutchogue, and sisters, Mary and Minnie Walgo, both of Mattituck.

Calling hours took place March 22 at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home. The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated March 23 at Our Lady of Ostrabrama R.C. Church. Father Marian Bicz officiated. Interment was at St. John’s R.C. Cemetery in Riverhead.

Memorial donations to the Cutchogue Fire Department would be appreciated.
