Beatrice E. Claudio

Beatrice E. Claudio, a 31-year resident of Greenport, died March 30 at Eastern Long Island Hospital. She was 84 years old.

Born July 13, 1928, in Trenton, N.J., to Beatrice (Nolan) and Orel Orvis, she was a homemaker for most of her adult life.

She was drafted by a talent scout and left high school to become the youngest  professional skater with Skating Vanities of 1946, performing with the group overseas through the U.S.O.

Ms. Claudio was a longtime member of Living Water Full Gospel Church in Aquebogue. She married William Claudio Sr. on Feb. 13, 1982, in Greenport and managed Claudio’s Restaurant with him until her retirement in 1990.

Family members said she enjoyed sketching, painting and reading, particularly the Bible.

Predeceased by her husband in 1998, Ms. Claudio is survived by her daughters, Dolores Franke of Virginia Beach, Va., Carol Wiwczar of Mattituck and Dottie Goss of Westhampton; her son, William H. Mann of Cutchogue; her brothers, Orel Orvis of Maryland and Gerald Orvis of Texas; and 10 grandchildren. She was  predeceased by her sister Constance Hayden in 2007.

The family will receive visitors Tuesday, April 2, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., with a service at 8 p.m., at Horton Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport. A service will also be held Wednesday, April 3, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, Pastor George Dupree officiating. Interment will follow at St. Agnes R.C. Cemetery in Greenport.
