The 61-year-old Southold man accused of stalking a 19-year-old Southold woman over two months was arraigned in Southold Town Justice Court Monday afternoon after his arrest the day before.

Authorities said Cesar Muralles had been following the woman around Southold Town for two months, and had repeatedly asked her to have sex with him, according to a criminal complaint. Mr. Muralles tried to contact the victim even after she told him to leave her alone and stop following her, police said.

Mr. Muralles also called the woman on her cell phone three times in the past week, once on Saturday evening and twice on Sunday afternoon, according to a criminal complaint. He was arrested on Route 25 in Southold at 5:35 p.m. Sunday, about an hour after he last contacted the victim by phone, police said.

Mr. Muralles was charged with fourth-degree stalking, a class “B” misdemeanor and pleaded not guilty during his arraignment Monday afternoon.

During Mr. Muralles’ arraignment, the victim told the judge she feared for her safety.

Justice William Price granted an order of protection for the victim that prevents Mr. Muralles from approaching or contacting her.

Mr. Muralles, Guatemalan national, was also wanted by the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency and was held for immigration purposes.

His bail was set at $750 cash, $1,500 bond for the stalking charge. He is due back in court on Friday, court officials said.
